Mental Illnesses Caused due to COVID-19

ANXIETY DISORDER

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about several negative impacts on people’s mental health due to constant worry and stress. In comparison to pre-COVID times when one in 10 adults have reported anxiety symptoms in 2019, this situation has worsened to 4 in 10 adults reporting such symptoms during the pandemic.

DRUG OVERDOSE DEATHS

The hopelessness and pessimism people experience as a result of the pandemic and lockdowns could be a dominant reason contributing to people’s decisions of resorting to drug overdose as a method of escaping reality.

EATING DISORDER

The stress and worry from the COVID pandemic has worsened the situation of some eating disorder patients. Signs of nutritional deficiencies were more apparent compared to the pre-COVID situation and there was an increasing trend in need for hospitalization regarding these conditions.
